These are today’s facts. This is today. Today is where I will stay.

I went to Honolulu a day and a half before anyone else arrived, so that I could finalize all the details for Grandpa’s funeral, burial and headstone. I always feel that death brings afterlife close. It is as if the border between Life-on-Earth and the Great Beyond becomes amorphous, translucent, porous for just a little while. It is like I can stretch out my hand, and almost reach across to the other side. Similarly, all those that have already died can stretch their hands out, too. My first afternoon, it was as if my mom had caught my hand, and we are now taking a long walk together along the sandy Pacific shore.
